Stopped in Whole Foods before Thanksgiving Dinner. The market was open till 3 PM. The entryway was filled with some lovely holiday greens! Lots of people food shopping on the holiday. Place appeared very clean. All the food isles were easy to navigate. WH was well stocked. The dairy items appeared very fresh. All the cheeses looked delicious! While shopping, I purchased some of my favorite Chai Diaries Chamomile Lavender Tea. Should I be in the area again, I would definitely stop in Whole Foods Market. Lots of parking in the area.
Years ago there was only one grocery store. The Key Food in Queens wasn't pleasant but what can you do? My sister wanted to boycott them because of a stale Diet Coke bottle. This noble act didn't put them out of business. (But hey, they did become less terrible years later. Change can be incremental). I have more choices these days but none are great. Encountering 13-months-expired sauerkraut at Morton Williams can make one yearn for the unadventurous stability of Target's grocery aisles. Shop-Rite has decent prices and intriguing ethnic fare but the lines are risky.This is my way of saying does Whole Foods only have a 3-star rating. I walked into Whole Foods more as a break from my 3-mile winter walk than as a planned shopping trip but I was hooked. It seem just as well-stocked as the Manhattan branches, well, maybe less maple water. But there were plenty of unusual beverages, even Blue Bottle New Orleans-style iced coffee. The apple selection was vast. They even have Topo Chico. There was a line outside - shorter than Trader Joe's, though. Saturday around 5PM I was 3rd on the line. Though I'd usually skip a store with a line, having it outdoors is good for transparency - no surprise line inside the store when it's too late, and the checkout process was quick and painless.
